First of all you have a distinct look with the paper textures going on and all the pleasing colors. Your work suggests happiness and light. It is refreshing!

You have talent. It looks like you need some help with your composition which could be more dynamic. (The bird Noble would benefit from being cropped a bit on the right for example.)Your type face choices and sizes can be downright clumsy and unpolished. But don’t despair!
That is easy to fix if you get a good book on graphic design principles and really study it or take a night class.Another idea is to work under a senior designer at an established design firm as an intern or junior designer.
I am motivated to write to you because your talent is really there and pleasant but I can see you struggle. I read that you are considering changing careers which would be a shame. Plus you have a baby so I really am taking this seriously.
Advertising or communication design is a good way to make money for a family but you need to climb the steps before you can make a decent salary. It is worth the wait. You have the capacity but if I were you I would not stay as an independant freelancer in the beginning. (You need a mentor to hone your skills.)

I appreciate your critique and agree that a mentor would be great unfortunately I live in a vacuum I am in a position where I am the only designer where I work so all I have are the books I read and the comments that people leave on this blog. thanks.
